Be Yourself

"If others can, why can't you?” is one of the most popular phrases used against students and youngsters. The phrase is indeed very encouraging and helps us boost our capability. However, the question to the phrase can be raised such as, "What if others have the ability I don't have and I have the ability others don't have?".  Each one of us is born with different gifts and purposes. What others can do does not necessarily mean you can do that too. If all of us are born with the same ability, same gift, and same purpose, I think life doesn't make sense. Some make cars, some make planes, some make bicycles, some make phones, some rules, some ruled, some are good in speaking, some in writings, some in doing, etc.. Therefore, it is important to know that we live with the unique gift and purpose given by God.

The very phrase "Be yourself” describes the unique gift and ability you have. It describes being you. It is pretty much easier to "just be myself" than to be someone else's. You don't have to worry about what you don't have which others have, or what you don't know which others know because you have a unique gift which others do not possess. No one is born without a gift. The only thing is we fail to discover our own gift and ability by imitating and envying others. Why do we fail to discover our own selves? Because we live in a generation where we give more importance to others’ lifestyles than our own.

Each one of us has a unique ability and purpose in life. However, we fail to discover our own ability because we are too busy imitating others. We live in a generation where imitating others is considered more important than following our own self and purpose.  Discovering oneself requires following one's own interest and ability rather than doing what others say and following other ideas. It is about "What I can do" and not what "others can do". The unique ability and purpose meant for us cannot be used by others, it can only be ignored. Find your ability and achieve your goal or purpose in life.

Sometimes, we get inspired by others to do what they do and fail miserably not because we haven't put our efforts enough but because it is just not our gift and purpose. Today's youngsters, for example, follow the lifestyle of foreigners, but the question is " Does that really make sense?" The answer is definitely negative. Trying to achieve something which is not of your ability and gift is like putting makeup in which you look awkward. You don't have to envy others business and life, God has made each of us in a different way for which we can enjoy each moment.

A guy was asked, "What will you do tomorrow?" He humorously replied, "I'll just be me." You don't have to envy or imitate others, just be what you are. Find your own ability, gift, and purpose because you were born to be who you are and not to be someone else's. Be yourself and achieve your own goal. It doesn't matter what ability you have, it doesn't matter how long you take, it doesn't matter what people think of you, just be yourself and achieve your goal.
