Why did animals were killed to redeem their sins in the Old Testament?

God allowed animals to be killed for sacrifices in the Old Testament to teach people about the seriousness of sin and the need for forgiveness. The sacrifices showed that sin brings death and separation from God, but there’s a way to be made right again through giving something valuable as a substitute.

These animal sacrifices pointed forward to Jesus, who would be the perfect, final sacrifice to take away sins once and for all (Hebrews 9:22; John 1:29). The animals were like a symbol to help people understand that forgiveness requires a cost and that God provided a way to restore the relationship with Him.

So, animal sacrifices were part of God’s plan to prepare people for Jesus, who offers true forgiveness and life forever [Hebrews 9:22] [John 1:29].
